Mokopane - Charges of malicious damage to property were withdrawn against three members of Agang SA by the Mahwelereng Magistrate's Court on Friday, the party said.
“We are happy that sanity has eventually prevailed,” said Agang SA regional spokesman April Mbewe.
“We had no doubt from the beginning that there was no basis for the malicious charge against our members. Their innocence has been vindicated and so has Agang SA's image as a peaceful party.”
Mampuru Rabekane, Phillipus Seanego and Robert Mogafe were arrested in Mokopane in July after violence erupted during a community meeting, Captain Sebotsaro Motadi said on Thursday.
Mogalakwena mayor Tlhalefi Mashamaite failed to arrive as promised to address Mzombane residents, near Mokopane, about service delivery problems, Motadi said.
A councillor then took the microphone.
“As he was trying to address them, a group disrupted the meeting. The three suspects stoned the councillor's car.... They later identified themselves as Agang SA members,” Motadi said.
The police could not confirm the withdrawal of charges.
