Roodepoort - Princess informal settlement near Roodepoort on the West Rand was quiet on Friday afternoon after service delivery protests earlier in the day.
Rocks, burnt tyres, tree stumps and other debris were scattered all along Albertina Sisulu Road. Two broken traffic lights lay in the middle of the road. A Nyala police vehicle was parked nearby.
A group of people sat outside a shack next to the road, drinking sorghum beer.
Resident Nicholas Ndlovu said: “The protests will start again when people return from work.”
Residents have been protesting in the area since Tuesday, demanding better service delivery and housing.
Earlier, metro police advised motorists to stay away from the area as protesters were throwing stones at passing vehicles.
