The scene outside the High Court sitting in Ventersdorp was quiet on Wednesday as the trial of two people accused of killing rightwing leader Eugene Terre'Blanche continued.
A small group of local residents and Afrikaner Weerstandsbeweging (AWB) members in camouflage uniforms gathered outside the court on Tuesday.
The AWB members' cars were draped with flags and posters, one of which read: “We want justice”, against a picture of Terre'Blanche's face.
Chris Mahlangu and a teenager, who may not be named, are charged with beating Terre'Blanche to death in his farmhouse outside Ventersdorp, in the North West, in April 2010.
Both have pleaded not guilty of murder, housebreaking, and robbery with aggravating circumstances.
Mahlangu has claimed that he acted in self defence. The teenager has denied involvement in the crime.
On Tuesday, the investigating officer, Lieutenant-Colonel Tsietsi Mano, testified that Mahlangu had planned to castrate Terre'Blanche after the murder.
“Mahlangu said he pulled Terre'Blanche's pants down and exposed his genitals. His intention was to dismember Terre'Blanche, but he decided against it.”
Mano said Mahlangu had stated that he went into a storeroom on the farm and found an iron rod. He and the teenager then entered Terre'Blanche's house through a window.
They found him lying on his back on the bed. Mahlangu allegedly hit him on the forehead, then twice more on his face. The teenager took the rod from him and hit Terre'Blanche on the face and chest.
Mano was questioned about a claim that Terre'Blanche had sodomised Mahlangu.
He told the court that the sodomy claim had not surfaced during the investigation and his interviews with Mahlangu.
The minor's legal representative, Norman Arendse, will continue his cross-examination of Mano on Wednesday. – Sapa
