Brits - Three men accused of murdering a North West policeman appeared briefly in the Brits Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

The case against Samuel Marothodi Maphanga, Ndoda Mathibefazi and Jonathan Seloane was postponed to March 23 for further investigation after two of the men – Mathibefazi and Seloane – told the court they would not apply for bail.

Mathibefazi and Seloane told the court through their lawyer that they were abandoning their bail application because they felt investigating officer Victor Ramorwesi was too tough for them. The State had been opposing the bail application.

The other accused, Maphanga, who was denied bail in December, told the court on Friday that he intended to apply for bail again, based on new evidence.

Maphanga, Mathibefazi and Seloane allegedly shot and wounded Warrant Officer Sipho Sithole in Letlhabile near Brits on November 14.

Sithole was in his car when he was approached by three men. They allegedly shot him in the chest and fled with his car. He was rushed to hospital where he died. His car was found later in Soshanguve, north of Pretoria.
