Suspected gang boss and drug dealer Farouk “Faroukie” Kamaldien appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday in connection with allegations that he raped a prostitute in March.
He shared the dock with his two sons, Walleed Haron, 28, and Amien Kamaldien, 19, who have been charged with sexual assault. It is alleged that they ejaculated in the woman’s face.
In addition, Kamaldien has been accused of dealing in tik – a charge which stems from a case dating back to 2009.
He was never charged in connection with the tik allegations, but was formally arrested in connection with the tik case two weeks ago.
“On February 26, 2009, police found (Kamaldien) and three other people with 262 packets of tik; (they were) in the process of weighing it. The matter was never placed on the court roll. The matter is now ready,” the charge sheet stated.
Three alleged accomplices in the drug case are still at large.
Kamaldien’s appearance on Tuesday was in connection with both cases.
Kamaldien was arrested in connection with rape on April 26 together with Haron. Amien Kamaldien was arrested six days later.
He was supposed to apply for bail on Tuesday, but the application was postponed to June 28 because the investigating officer was not available to testify.
The State intends to oppose Kamaldien’s release on bail.
