Johannesburg - A man was arrested at the Hillbrow Clinic in Johannesburg for allegedly shooting and wounding a man and hijacking his minibus, Gauteng police said on Wednesday.

The 30-year-old man and another man allegedly shot the 29-year-old driver once in the upper body and took his white Toyota Quantum taxi in Newtown on Tuesday, Warrant Officer Xoli Mbele said.

The driver was waiting at a red traffic light on the corner of Queen Elizabeth and Carr streets at the time.

Another minibus driver took the man to the Hillbrow Clinic.

While at the clinic, the man identified his alleged 30-year-old assailant, who was being treated for an injury to his arm. The police were contacted and the man was arrested at the clinic.

The 29-year-old was in a stable condition. His taxi, which had a tracking device, was recovered in Hillbrow on Tuesday. The other hijacker was still at large.

The 30-year-old would appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court soon. - Sapa
