Pretoria - An alleged hijacker has been arrested in Pretoria after breaking a leg and fracturing both ankles in a bid to avoid capture, the Citizen reported on Tuesday.

He jumped four metres into a culvert in Paul Kruger Street, between Boom and Venter streets, after four men hijacked a British American Tobacco Company delivery van on Monday morning.

“They forced the driver of the van into the back. Two got into the van and two other guys followed,” Jacques Pretorius from Fidelity Security was quoted as saying.

“We realised the vehicle was hijacked and caught up with them. Two of our guards ran after the guys. One was apprehended… two others escaped and the other man jumped off the concrete wall.”

Pretorius said the man who jumped was a known armed robber and hijacker. - Sapa
