Johannesburg - A Vaal family whose daughter was among children allegedly molested inside a mosque were shocked to find the alleged molester’s passport on their doorstep on Wednesday morning.
“The passport was placed underneath my door. Someone must have placed it there because it was not there last night (Tuesday),” said the woman, who cannot be named to protect her daughter’s identity.
Her eldest set of twins made the discovery upon opening the door just before leaving for school.
“They thought it was an identity book. But it was his passport,” the mother said.
The woman claims she immediately contacted the investigating officer to inform him.
The Star reported on Wednesday that a Tanzanian man allegedly made little girls lie on the ground, take off their trousers and underwear, before taking pictures of their half-naked bodies with his cellphone.
The alleged crimes, which the parents of his victims believe had been taking place for a while, were said to have taken place inside a mosque in Evaton’s Lakeside Proper section.
The man was arrested last Wednesday after he was confronted by the parents of one of his victims. The confrontation came shortly after a 5-year-old girl told her mother she had witnessed her twin sister’s alleged molestation.
Gauteng police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said they were conducting investigations as to who had dropped off the suspect’s passport at the victim’s home, and why.
