Limpopo -

A police sergeant has appeared in the Seshego Magistrate’s Court after he allegedly raped a woman, claiming it was part of a church ritual to rid her of bad luck.

Sergeant Amos Mosinyane, 43, who is attached to the Protection and Security Services in Polokwane, Limpopo, is facing charges of rape and corruption.

He appeared in court on Monday and was granted bail of R2 000.

This follows his arrest by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) on Friday.

Mosinyane’s court appearance, according to Ipid spokesman Moses Dlamini, came after a sting operation where he allegedly attempted to bribe his commander to not report the matter to the police watchdog.

The alleged rape took place on the evening of February 1, when a 26-year-old woman came to Mosinyane’s residence seeking counselling.

The sergeant is also a ZCC pastor.

He is due back in court in April. - The Star
