A man has been stoned to death for allegedly raping a mentally ill teenager in Swaneville, Kagiso on the West Rand, Gauteng police said on Thursday.
“Police received a complaint about mob justice in Swaneville and responded swiftly. On arrival at the scene, they found a man lying on the ground and bleeding,” Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya said.
He had been severely assaulted and stoned, and died on the scene on Wednesday.
The mother of a 16-year-old mentally disabled teenager accused the man of raping her daughter.
“She confronted him, but when the deceased denied the accusations, the mother allegedly screamed and mobilised members of the community.”
Sibiya said the man was then chased and attacked.
Police were investigating and hoped to make arrests soon, he said. - Sapa
