Suspended national police commissioner Bheki Cele has discussed his possible return to the ANC national executive committee, should he be fired from the police, the Sunday Times reported.

Cele's spokesman Vuyo Mkhize confirmed to the paper that his boss had met with a number of KwaZulu-Natal ANC chairmen.

Regarding Cele's possible return to the NEC, he was quoted as saying: “That question does not arise as long as Cele is still in the police.”

Mkhize said on Friday that Cele intended approaching a high court to challenge the validity of a board of inquiry report that recommended his dismissal.

The eNews channel reported on Thursday night that the board of inquiry had recommended that Cele be removed.

It found he lacked the capacity to execute his official duties efficiently and was not fit to hold office.

According to eNews, the board found that his apparent unlawful conduct proved he was unable to hold office. Evidence also suggested there was a questionable relationship between Cele and property tycoon Roux Shabangu. - Sapa
