Johannesburg - ANC spokesman Zizi Kodwa has slammed members of the ANC Youth League who took the mother body to court on Thursday afternoon, for not first exhausting internal processes to deal with their dispute over Friday’s national congress.

Members of league structures in North West are trying to interdict the congress from taking place, saying their leaders flouted proper procedures in the run up to Friday.

This after last year’s league national congress was downgraded to a consultative congress, postponed to June and then postponed again to this month.

“We discourage members of the youth league to take issues that there is still sufficient internal mechanisms to deal with disputes resulting from branch general meetings, including recourse at a provincial level or at a task team level,” Kodwa told Independent.

“We haven’t received such matters as the ANC. The door is still open including as we start with the congress.”

He said congress plenary could also be addressed on the issues facing members from North West, as well as the congress’s committees.

“So there is no time when we can say aggrieved members are not listened to but they must exhaust internal mechanisms,” Kodwa said.

“We still believe we could talk about these issues even at a plenary of the congress. We discourage members from taking the organisaiton outside, because they could be defining themselves outside the movement.”

Kodwa said the aggrieved members would not face disciplinary action at this stage.
