Johannesburg - Women in Limpopo should be “extremely cautious” as police believe a serial killer could be operating in Groblersdal, the ANC Women's League said on Monday.
“We urge all women and girls to be extra cautious until police manage to track down whatever monster is responsible for the brutal rapes and murders taking place in the Groblersdal area,” spokeswoman Troy Martens said in a statement.
On Sunday, Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said police had every reason to believe a serial killer was on the loose as four women had been found raped and murdered in the area since April.
Martens said it was believed that the killer lured women with false promises that he could arrange jobs for them.
“This appears to be a tactic used by sick individuals who prey on the desperate circumstances of the poorest of the poor to fulfil their sinister objectives...”
It was feared that Dinah Lekola, who went missing from Groblersdal in May, could have fallen victim to the killer.
Martens appealed to anyone with information to contact the police.
