Nelspruit – A 25-year-old woman who allegedly sold her child for R5 000 is expected to apply for bail in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court along with two other women on Monday.

Hawks spokesman Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said the mother allegedly sold her biological one-year-old daughter to a woman for R5 000.

The mom, the buyer and an 18-year-old woman - allegedly involved in the transaction - made their first court appearance last week.

“The child was found in Springs, Gauteng. The buyer of the child, a 45-year-old woman, also faces charges of human trafficking,” Mulaudzi said.

The three were arrested by the Hawks last week.

Last month Zama Madlala, 20, pleaded guilty in the Pietermaritzburg Regional Court to three charges under the Human Trafficking Act after she put up her 19-month-old son for sale on Gumtree.

Madlala was given R2 500 bail on strict conditions, which included having to report to her nearest police station and house arrest.
