Durban – A second suspect has been arrested in connection with the murder of a Bergville school teacher, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Saturday.

Police officers from the Umlazi K9 unit and Durban protection and security services carried out a joint operation at Isipingo on Friday to follow up on intelligence received of a suspect wanted for murder and kidnapping, Major Shooz Magudulela said.

“Their investigations led them to a bus stop at Isipingo where they pounced on the suspect.”

He was wanted for a murder and kidnapping case that took place at Wembezi last month, and was expected to appear in the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, he said.

On March 11, Bergville school teacher Raymond Mabizela, 47, was allegedly lured by his girlfriend Fikelephi Ngubane, 28, to Wembezi.

“It is suspected that while he was at Wembezi he was kidnapped by another boyfriend of Fikelephi and he disappeared. The teacher was than reported as missing and on 24 March 2016 his decomposed body was found covered by a carpet in a donga at Wembezi,” he said.

A case of murder and kidnapping was opened at Wembezi police station. Following a thorough investigation by detectives, Ngubane was arrested. She appeared in the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court and the case was postponed to May 6 for a bail application, Magudulela said.
