Cape Town - Bredasdorp has been left reeling in the wake of another brutal murder after a young woman was stabbed to death.

Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said the body of 30-year-old Xolelwa Cynthia Vuma was discovered in a house in Ou Meule Street at about 2.30pm on Monday.

“She was found with stab wounds to the left side of her chest and back,” said Van Wyk.

Detectives arrested a 38-year-old man later that on Monday. He was set to appear in the Bredasdorp Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday morning.

Dian Dampies, 22, told the Daily Voice she went to investigate after hearing Vuma and her boyfriend argue about money.

“When I walked into the bedroom he stopped hitting her,” she said.

Dampies then left the couple.

“A short while later he came out, took his clothes and left.”

After the boyfriend left, Dampies entered the room and found Vuma’s bloodied body.

Vuma’s death comes a week after a Women’s Month Programme launch in Bredasdorp.

A Safe Spaces bench depicting the names of victims Anene Booysen, 17, Kayde Williams, 5, and Elda Jaftha, 15, who have all been murdered in Bredasdorp in the past three years was unveiled at the court.

Jaftha was discovered rolled up in a blanket and stashed underneath a bed in Bredasdorp’s Zweletsha informal settlement. The teen was allegedly murdered by her 27-year-old boyfriend with whom she used to live.
