Mooinooi - One man has been arrested after robbers shot a shop owner in Mooinooi in the face, North West police said on Saturday.

On Friday, a group of five robbers held up the employees of a shop in Mooinooi with a knife and firearm, provincial police spokeswoman Captain Adéle Myburgh said.

One of the employees shouted for help and the owner came running into the shop to assist them.

The robbers then shot the owner in the face before fleeing the shop, empty-handed.

Police later arrested a 26-year-old man and are still looking for the other suspects.

“The shop owner was taken to a hospital in Rustenburg for medical treatment,” said Myburgh.

The day before, two robbers threw stones at the Bangaladeshi owner of a shop at Lehurutshe.

They made off with cellular phone recharge vouchers, a cellular phone, cash and cigarettes to the value of nearly R5000 said Myburgh.

“Police followed up on information and arrested both suspects and recovered some of the stolen items.”

She also reported that at Bloemhof, arsonists set fire to a Dairy Bell store, causing R3 million damage after entering the premises by bending the surrounding palisade fencing.

“Night shift employees working in the store tried to extinguish the fire but were not successful,” said Myburgh.
