Johannesburg – A 22-year-old assistant boarding master from Parktown Boys High School appeared briefly in the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court on Wednesday morning.
The young man who cannot be named due to the sensitivity of the case, appeared on charges relating to allegations that he sexually assaulted at least 20 male pupils and raped one.
The State Prosecutor Advocate Colleen Ryan asked Magistrate Carlo Labuschagne for a postponement so that investigations could be completed and were also seeking an indictment to transfer the matter to the High Court.
The defence agreed on the postponement, but raised concerns over a search and seizure warrant that was carried out last week at the accused's Roodepoort home.
"It was supposed to be done in the presence of the accused, his uncle and his lawyer but it was done without the accused or his lawyer," he said.
The court acknowledged this matter and later agreed to grant the postponement.
The case was postponed to July 11 with accused remaining out on R3 000 bail.
