ATM bombed at Macassar garage

Cape Town - An ATM at a Shell garage in Macassar was bombed and robbed in the early hours of Monday morning.

Police spokesman Captain FC van Wyk said armed suspects struck at the petrol station situated on the N2 in Macassar at about 1am.

“Explosives were used to gain access to the cash in a drop safe, the suspects fled the scene and are yet to be arrested. Fortunately no one was injured the incident is under investigation.”

Director for Safety and Security Richard Bosman said police had confirmed that a robbery took place at the garage.

The petrol station was still closed mid-morning with several police officers at the scene collecting evidence. The Vida e Caffe at the garage was being cleared of what appeared to be broken glass.
