Somerset West -

A 27-year-old man was sentenced to 15 years' imprisonment by the Somerset West Regional Court for damages done to an ATM, Western Cape police said on Friday.

Captain Frederick van Wyk said Junaid Solomons was sentenced on Wednesday for the damages he caused to an ATM in Somerset Mall.

“Solomons was arrested on January 18 at 8pm by the Standard Bank High Risk Unit conducting an operation in the area,” said van Wyk.

“His modus operandi was to cut the belts of the cash dispensary tray of the ATM and when a client withdrew cash they would not receive the money. Then the suspect would return to the machine and remove the cash (when the client left).”

Van Wyk said Solomons was also convicted for the same offence in the same court for a Brakenfell case. - Sapa
