Two more ATMs have been blown up in Goodwood – the third ATM explosion over the past two weeks.
The two Absa ATMs near the 7-Eleven on the corners of Milton Road and Vasco Boulevard were targeted in the early hours of this morning.
Eyewitness Wayne van Doesburgh, deputy chairman of the Goodwood Community Police Forum (CPF), said on Friday that he was awoken at 3.10am to the sound of a loud explosion. He jumped out of bed and ran outside.
He said he saw three men fiddling at one of the ATMs. They saw him and fled in a car parked close by.
Van Doesburgh saw blue police lights flashing a few metres away and flagged the car down. They were unable to catch up to the getaway car.
Provincial police spokes-man Captain FC van Wyk said he was waiting for a full report before he could confirm the ATM damage.
This week, an ATM built into a wall outside the Kwikspar at Tyger Manor Centre was blown up and cash stolen at the shopping centre in Bellville. Last week an ATM at the KTC Spar in Gugulethu was also blown up.
