Attempted hijacking and shooting at OR Tambo

Johannesburg – Gauteng police were on the scene of an attempted hijacking and shooting at the OR Tambo International Airport on Monday night, the airport said.

"OR Tambo International Airport Management was this afternoon made aware of this very unfortunate and deeply concerning matter," the airport said in a statement.

"The incident took place off the R24, along Ring Road, which leads to the airport’s arrivals and departures roadway. Law enforcement is currently on site, investigating the crime scene."

The airport said they were waiting for more information from the police. Gauteng police were not immediately available to comment. Exact details were not immediately known.

A video was circulating on Monday of a man who took a video of the incident.

In the video a man is lying in the middle of the road as he approaches a man an woman in another car.

The woman screams and the man explains that men with guns approached them. It could also not be immediately confirmed if this was an account of the incident.
