Durban - A Chatsworth landlord who allegedly shot dead his mother and wounded two of his tenants has been granted R2 000 bail.

Vasa Govender, 56, has been charged for the murder of his mother, Annamma Govender, 88, and the attempted murder of tenants Neville Jodash Moodley, 24, and his girlfriend, Simone Subrayen, 20.

He appeared in the Chatsworth Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

Moodley said he was disappointed that Govender had been granted bail.

During the bail application, magistrate Leon Ferreira noted that the witness statements and the post-mortem and ballistics reports were still outstanding.

The matter was adjourned to May 28.
