Bank technician held for stealing from ATM

Rustenburg – A 23-year-old bank technician was arrested for allegedly stealing an undisclosed amount of money from an automated teller machine (ATM), North West police said on Wednesday.

Police spoksperson Sergeant Kelebogile Moleko said the technician was arrested on Tuesday.

"The arrest of the suspect emanates from an incident in which he allegedly failed to disclose the correct amount after attending to an ATM fault at Boitekong outside Rustenburg. It is alleged that the suspect and his colleague, travelling in different vehicles, were dispatched to attend to an ATM fault at a shopping complex in Boitekong."

She said after the fault was fixed and the ATM started to function well, security personnel was immediately sent to go and investigate in the presence of the technicians after it was realised at the control room that the cash in the machine did not balance.

"Upon investigation, security officials found an undisclosed amount of money in one of the technicians' vehicle. The matter was reported the police and the suspect was arrested."

He was expected to appear in the Rustenburg Magistrate's Court on Thursday.
