Pretoria - The prison inmate accused of blackmailing Christoff Becker’s mother, Mariëtte, briefly appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
Llewellyn Nel was brought to court in shackles where the matter was postponed to July 23.
Nel allegedly contacted the mother of one of the “Waterkloof Four” on her cellphone numerous times, threatening to leak two videos of Becker that would get him in trouble with the Department of Correctional Services.
She was told to pay R30 000 to ensure the videos did not see the light.
According to reports, Becker’s mother was ready to make the payment to Nel before she decided to do the right thing and report the matter to the Hawks.
She did not attend the proceedings.
Nel was arrested in 2006, along with Tanya van Niekerk, for a series of crimes which landed them the title of South Africa’s own Bonnie and Clyde.
They were wanted on at least 70 charges across the country.
They stayed in hotels and guesthouses without paying, committed credit card fraud and stole vehicles.
They were eventually arrested in Mpumalanga.
