Pretoria - Christoff Becker, one of the Waterkloof Four, on Wednesday made another bid in the Pretoria High Court to be released.

Becker approached the court to appeal last month’s decision by acting Judge Japie Maritz that he not be released on parole immediately.

Judge Maritz gave the Department of Correctional Services 14 days to put together a new parole board to decide if Becker should get parole and whether his parole conditions should be amended.

Maritz set aside the parole board’s decision in February revoking Becker’s parole.

The same order was upheld by Judge Jody Kollapen on Wednesday.

Kollapen ruled that the decision of the supervision and parole board on October 2 be declared null and void. This means that a new parole board will have to sit and look into Becker’s application for parole. But, Kollapen declined to order that he be released on the same parole conditions as his earlier release on February 11.

Becker and Frikkie du Preez’s parole was revoked when a video emerged of the pair allegedly drinking alcohol and using a cellphone in a cell at the Kgosi Mampuru prison.

The Waterkloof Four were released on bail on February 11.

Becker and Du Preez were sent back to prison on February 28.
