Pretoria - Ekangala police have arrested three teens following the abortion and burning of a foetus.

They were tipped off on Friday that the pregnant mother, 18, had terminated her pregnancy using illegal abortion pills and she and two friends, both 19, had tried to dispose of the foetus.

The police apprehended the three who led them to the place where the charred remains were found.

According to police, the girl bought tablets for R800 and took them on Thursday afternoon. After she gave birth in a toilet she had tried to flush away the foetus without success. Her friends suggested that they burn it but were interrupted by passers-by and so discarded it in bushes.

Police said the mother would be charged with murder and her friends with conspiracy to murder. They were looking for the woman who sold her the tablets.
