Johannesburg - A motorcyclist was arrested for speeding on the N1, the Johannesburg metro police department said on Sunday.

“The 27-year-old man was caught going at 203km/h on his motorcycle, which had no number plates,” said spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar.

The man was nabbed near the 14th Avenue offramp in Roodepoort on the West Rand, Minnaar said.

The man - from Durban - faces a charge of speeding and riding a motorcycle without a number plate.

He was expected to appear in the Roodepoort Magistrate's Court on Monday.

Eleven men and two women were also arrested for speeding on the N1 south on Saturday night.

Minnaar said they were caught driving faster than the 120km/h speed limit.

“Those arrested were all young people,” said Minnaar.

They were expected to appear in the Randburg Magistrate's Court on Monday. - Sapa
