North West - A body has been recovered from the Modimolle dam, in Mmabatho, after an aircraft crash, North West police said on Wednesday.

“The first body was found by police divers at around 10am. The search is continuing for a second body,” Brigadier Thulani Ngubane said.

“We are still on the scene and divers are working around the clock to recover the other body as it is a huge dam.”

Ngubane said the police had received reports that two people were on board a helicopter when it crashed into the dam on Tuesday evening.

However, an official at the Mafikeng Airport said it was a microlight that crashed.

“It was a light aircraft... and the Civil Aviation Authority is now handling the matter,” said the official, who did not want to be named.”
