Johannesburg - Judgment in the treason trial of a group of Afrikaner right-wingers continues in the Pretoria High Court on Tuesday.

Only 18 of the 22 accused were present in court on Monday when Judge Eben Jordaan started summing up the record of evidence, which alone comprises over 50 000 pages. Judgment was expected to take three weeks.

The trial started nine years ago.

The charges arise from a plot, allegedly hatched by members of the right-wing Boeremag, to violently overthrow the African National Congress-led government.

The accused face main charges of high treason, murder, and attempted murder, as well as alternative charges ranging from sabotage and terrorism to manufacturing explosives and the illegal possession of firearms.

The murder charge relates to a woman killed in 2002 while sleeping in a shack in Soweto, by a metal bar flung about 400m by a bomb blast at a railway line.
