East London - A man claiming to be a doctor was arrested on Friday after walking into a Mount Frere hospital wanting to treat patients, the Eastern Cape health department said.
Wearing a stethoscope, he got into the wards at the Madzikane Ka Zulu Memorial Hospital and insisted on seeing patients, spokesman Sizwe Kupelo said. Nurses raised the alarm and police were called.
“According to our reports he looked like a person who is intoxicated,” Kupelo said.
The company responsible for providing security at the hospital would have to account for how the man was able to get into the wards.
