Cape Town - Four Tanzanian men were arrested in Bellville, Cape Town, on Tuesday for impersonating police officers and committing business robberies, Western Cape police said.

“During patrols in the Bellville area today a vehicle was spotted by the Crime Prevention Unit members and pulled over,” Captain Frederick van Wyk.

“Four suspects between the ages of 17 and 30 who are from Tanzania were arrested.”

Van Wyk said police were given the registration number of a white Nissan Tiida after they received information that the car was involved in business robberies in Cape Town, Milnerton, Parow and other areas.

Police suspected the men robbed a jewellery shop in Green Point last week.

Information received was that the car was driven by a foreigner and that the men were armed. They wore police uniforms while perpetrating the robberies, he said.

“The suspects were detained and are due to appear in court once they have been charged.”
