Johannesburg - Bogus metro police officers were behind the kidnapping of a man earlier this month, the Johannesburg metro police said on Monday after a probe.
“It was discovered that the three men who had posed as officers were in fact bogus officers, following an identity parade of 105 genuine officers from the Midrand region,” said Johannesburg metro police spokesman Wayne Minnaar.
The metro police's internal affairs unit began an investigation after Roberto Strydom, of Pretoria, claimed in a report on August 19, that three metro police put him in the back of a van and assaulted him.
Minnaar said it was found that the vehicle used in the kidnapping did not have Johannesburg metro police stickers, and that the kidnappers' uniform differed from that of genuine officers, as it had blue and not khaki trousers.
