Johannesburg -

A man has been robbed of his car, cellphone and money by men pretending to be police officers in Zola, Soweto, police said on Thursday.

Three men arrived at the man's house on Wednesday night and told him his bakkie had been reported stolen, said Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela.

One of them was wearing a police uniform.

“They asked him to go with them so they can verify if the vehicle indeed belonged to him.”

Along the way, they robbed him at gunpoint, pushed him out of the car and sped off with his car and another Toyota Corolla that did not have a number plate.
