A woman was arrested at her house in Randburg on Thursday for allegedly making a hoax bomb threat, police said.

The 49-year-old woman reportedly made the threat on Wednesday because she did not want her daughter to board a 1Time flight from Johannesburg to George.

She was arrested on Thursday afternoon and was expected to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate's Court on Friday, said Captain Dennis Adriao.

“We take such hoax calls seriously,” he said.

The Star reported on Thursday that, when the flight landed in George, airline officials searched for the bomb, which resulted in flight delays.

The police bomb squad was also sent in to look for a bomb, but nothing was found, Western Cape police spokesman Sergeant Nigel Olifant told the newspaper.

The airline's CEO Blacky Komani told The Star that the call made to the call centre was traced back to the mother. - Sapa
