Johannesburg - Two men were shot dead and four others suffered gunshot wounds after a botched armed robbery at Bosmont Café in Roodepoort, Netcare911 said on Wednesday.

Athlenda Mathe, the Media Liaison Officer at Netcare 911 said paramedics responded to a shooting on Albertina Sisulu road in Florida, Roodepoort, on Tuesday evening.

Initial reports from the scene indicate that there was an attempted robbery at Bosmont Café.

“When Netcare911 paramedics and other services arrived on scene, we found that two people had already died due to the gunshot wounds they sustained,” said Mathe.

One of the dead was thought to be a suspect and the other a security guard.

“Both men were declared dead by paramedics on the scene,” said Mathe, adding: “We also found that four people had sustained gunshot wounds, two men were found to be in a critical condition and another two sustained moderate injuries”.

Mathe said Netcare911 paramedics worked alongside other services to stabilise the wounded men before transporting them to hospitals in the area.

“The two suspects who were in a critical condition were transported to a nearby hospital under heavy police guard.

Police are investigating the matter,” said Mathe.
