Pitermaritzburg - A 15-year-old boy has been sentenced to five years at the Westville Youth Detention Centre for the rape of a two-year-old girl.
The teen pleaded guilty in the Pietermaritzburg regional court to raping the toddler, saying that he was remorseful for his actions and came from a home where both his parents were deceased and he was cared for by his grandmother.
Regional Court magistrate Z Ngwenya on Thursday convicted the boy as charged based on a statement that he prepared.
In it, the boy said he was at the victim’s home on May 25 this year, and was playing with her behind some houses. The boy said he had removed his trousers and raped the child.
“As I did that her mother entered and asked me what I am doing,” he said.
He said the little girl’s mother assaulted him and took him home where she assaulted him again.
The mother of the toddler said that she was unhappy with the sentence.
“My child has been brutalised and traumatised. He deserved a longer sentence.
“This is not justice,” the mother said.
