Pretoria - A 14-year-old boy has been arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm in Lotus Gardens, Pretoria West, Gauteng police said on Thursday.

He was arrested on Wednesday evening and handed into the custody of his parents, Captain Pinky Tsinyane said.

“It is alleged that the boy had taken a firearm to the high school in the area where he is attending. He was seen with the firearm and police were alerted,” Captain Pinky Tsinyane said.

Police searched the boy's home and found the Tec-9 semi-automatic pistol hidden under the bed. When questioned about the gun he alleged it belonged to his uncle, who denied the gun was his.

He would appear in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court on Friday on a charge of illegal firearm possession. - Sapa
