Brits - A man appeared in the Brits Magistrate’s Court on Friday on charges of fraud and uttering, North West police said.

Police spokesperson Colonel Sabata Mokgwabone said Aibi Simon Pelle, 46, was remanded in custody for formal bail application until August 5.

Pelle, of Letlhabile near Brits, was arrested at a farm in Assen on July 22 after he was found in possession of a laptop, printer and laminating machine.

“It was established during the apprehension that the accused was illegally producing and selling smartcard Identity Documents and birth certificates to Malawian and Mozambican foreign nationals in Assen, Kameeldrift and Crocodile farm,” said Mokgwabone.

“Preliminary investigation has revealed that the suspect has a pending fraud offence committed in Mpumalanga in December 2014 where the same modus operandi was used to issue fake documents to foreign nationals.”
