Ottosdal - The case of a 17-year-old boy who accidentally shot his brother will be taken to the director of public prosecutions for a decision, North West police said on Thursday.

“The investigation officer was given instruction to comply with the court before he sends the docket to the DPP,” said Colonel Sabata Mokgwabone.

He said social workers had completed assessing the boy but the case was not put on the court roll on Thursday.

Mokgwabone was not sure when the boy would appear in court.

“All that information will depend on the decision of the director of public prosecutions.”

The teenager shot dead his 21-year-old brother on Monday at Witpoort farm, near Ottosdal.

“They were allegedly kneeling down and aiming at a warthog when the 21-year-old brother suddenly stood up,” Mokgwabone said at the time.

“It is apparent that the minor, unaware that his brother was standing up, fired a shot, and the bullet allegedly hit the victim in the head.”

A case of murder and a case of negligent handling of a firearm were opened.
