Durban - A man has been arrested after he allegedly shot dead two brothers over a parking space at Kingsford, a block of flats in Margaret Mncadi Avenue (Victoria Embankment), on Sunday afternoon.

The brothers and the man were tenants in the building. It is alleged that Ahmed Vawda, 25, had parked his vehicle in the first-floor parking area and was walking with his wife to the elevators when he was shot twice. It is unclear what transpired between him and the shooter. Vawda’s wife was unharmed.

His brother, Mohamed Vawda, 31, heard an argument from his third-floor flat and went downstairs. When he stepped into the parking lot, he was shot dead. The man allegedly fled and hid in a storeroom in the parking lot.

Police arrested him. The man had allegedly returned from a firearm training session at a shooting range. Friends of the deceased said the man had been carrying target boards with bullet holes.

The men were believed to have been shot twice in their chests.

Netcare 911 spokesman, Chris Botha, said paramedics arrived at the scene and found the men dead. The brothers will be buried on Monday.
