A Pietermaritzburg nurse who was arrested in India after a live bullet was allegedly found in her suitcase has returned home.

But her ordeal had affected her deeply, a relative said on Tuesday.

Isra Devi Lutchman was back home last night after a Delhi court authorised the return of her passport.

Lutchman, 62, returned with her son Colin and two family friends who had flown to India to support her during her ordeal.

Her husband, Spaga, who suffered chest pains brought on by stress and anxiety, was admitted to hospital earlier this week but was discharged on Tuesday to welcome his wife.

He asked that the family be given some privacy to allow for his wife to recover from her terrifying ordeal.

The St Anne’s Hospital nurse was arrested on February 19 and detained for four days in a Delhi jail as a suspected terrorist.
