Durban - A burglar snacked on ice lollies and luxury Ferrero Rocher chocolates when he ransacked a home in Verulam before making off with valuables.

The sweet-toothed intruder gained entry into the home by making a hole in the roof and climbing down in Brindhaven on Monday, said private security company Reaction Unit South Africa spokesman, Prem Balram.

The home-owner noticed that jewellery, cash and laptops were stolen said police spokesman, Lieutenant Shooz Magudulela. Two bedrooms were also ransacked.

A large amount of cash as well as money from the god lamp, and jewellery worth more than R250 000 were stolen.

The suspect tucked into several Ferrero Rocher chocolates as well as ice lollies and discarded the wrappings throughout the house before escaping through the ceiling.

The shock of the break-in caused a 46-year-old woman to suffer an anxiety attack. She was stabilised and taken to hospital.

A case of house break-in was lodged at Verulam police station. No arrests have been made.
