Mothutlung, North West -

A North West businessman was killed by three men in Mothutlung village near Brits, police said on Wednesday.

The 55-year-old man, his son and a domestic worker, were fetching wood in the bush on Tuesday when three men attacked them. They wore balaclavas, Captain Tselane Nkala said.

Nkala said the man was hit with a sharp object on the head. His body was dumped in a canal.

“The suspects gave the domestic worker an unknown mixture to drink and left her tied up with a rope before they left with the man's son, (also tied up).”

She said they drove off to the house were they demanded the son show them where money was. They took it and two cellphones, and fled the scene.

Police were called by relatives in the same area who became suspicious when they only saw the car but not the owner, said Nkala.

“They called us after realising that it was a long (time) since they went to fetch the wood, (and) they were suspicious because they only saw the car outside.”

She said police were investigating a case of murder, assault and theft. - Sapa
