Businessman ordered to pay Absa R1m

Pretoria - The former Polokwane businessman Jacques Nell who was convicted of defrauding Absa bank of millions of rand has been sentenced to ten years imprisonment wholly suspended for five years and ordered to pay back R1 million to the bank.

According to the Hawks Nel was sentenced by the Mankweng Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

Hawks spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Robert Netshiunda, said Nell, the director at DATA Master Office Automation at the time, had submitted fraudulent documents to the bank to secure finance for DoTech machines.

He misrepresented that the machines were new at the time, while they were over six years old.

He was ordered to pay back the R1 million with immediate effect.
