Johannesburg - North West premier Thandi Modise on Sunday called for bail to be denied to a man accused of beating his 19-year-old girlfriend to death with a brick.
“The scourge of violence against women is alarming and that is why we call for the toughest sentence possible against those who commit gender-based crimes,” she said in a statement.
Police spokesman Captain Pelonomi Makau said on Thursday that the 27-year-old man would appear in the Lehurutshe Magistrate's Court on Tuesday. He first appeared in court on Monday, a short while after being arrested.
“The accused blamed the victim of being unfaithful to him,” Makau said.
