Cape Town - Commuters in Baden Powell Drive, near the Kanini informal settlement, were shocked by the sight of a charred body lying next to the road on Friday morning.

The man had apparently been set alight. Police are investigating a case of murder.

“This morning the police were alerted to a scene of crime where a 28-year-old man was burnt to death,” said police spokesman Colonel Tembinkosi Kinana.

“The incident occurred (in) Baden Powell, Nkanini squatter camp. The circumstances surrounding the incident are unknown. However, the police have opened a murder case for investigation. No arrest has been made at this stage.”

Motorists took to social media sites to express sorrow and outrage about the horrific scene. “It’s not nice seeing someone like that. I stopped there cause I had to drop my colleague off on the same spot. Can’t seem to get that picture out of my mind. Sick sick sick,” said Shakier Isaacs.

Earlier this week a teenager in Mitchells Plain was killed by a mob who accused him of burglary.
