Johannesburg - Two people have been arrested for reportedly attempting to open an account using fraudulent documents, Western Cape police said on Sunday.
Captain Fredrick van Wyk said a man, 42, and a woman, 34, tried to open an account at a cellphone shop at the Waterfront for about R40 000 on Saturday.
A clerk became suspicious and notified the police.
“Police investigated the matter further by visiting the homes of both suspects. They recovered equipment to falsify original documents, such as a laptop, printers and scanners”.
Around 170 identity documents - most of which had their photographs removed - were also seized.
The two would appear in the Cape Town Magistrate's Court on Tuesday. - Sapa
