Cape Town - A 17-year-old girl allegedly snatched by men in a white bakkie while on her way to school in Grassy Park on Monday, managed to escape unharmed.

The Plumstead High pupil was snatched in Williams Avenue and forced into the back of the bakkie from where she called her mother on her cellphone and told her of the kidnapping. Her mother called the police.

Provincial police spokesman FC van Wyk said a helicopter search had been launched, but the bakkie was not spotted.

A couple of hours later Grassy Park police received a call from Cape Town’s central police to fetch the teen.

The circumstances surrounding the girl’s escape were unclear.

Grassy Park Community Police Forum chairman Phillip Bam warned parents to ensure safe travelling plans were made for their children.

Earlier this year, another girl from Grassy Park was kidnapped and raped by three men.

No arrests have been made.
