Cape Town - The City of Cape Town has urged business owners to prepare for the implementation of a liquor by-law on trading days and hours on April 1.

“Anyone trading in liquor must... abide by the new trading hours from April 1, regardless of the type of licence they hold,” councillor Garreth Bloor said in a statement.

Bloor said the city had created a special exemption for licensed premises which sell liquor for consumption on site.

Under the by-law, licensed premises may sell alcohol until 2am, but can apply for an extension until 4am, only if they are in areas zoned for business or industrial use.

In residential areas, licensees may sell liquor between 11am and 11pm.

The by-law affects guest accommodation establishments, business premises, places of entertainment, sport and community clubs, and hotels and casinos. - Sapa
